Q & A
Q. Why WordPress?
A. The answer is simple. It’s affordable (free), it’s powerful, it’s constantly being developed and it’s got a large fan base that is contstantly innovating and creating new additions to the stable base platform.
Q. I’m a Travel Blogger – why WordPress for my travel site?
A. If you’re a travel blogger then your objective is visitors to your site. With WordPress and a few simple plugins every time you publish a post your information will hit Google, Yahoo and a whole host of search engines. Plus, using the various social media plugins that are available, you can connect Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn to name a few, and your posts will automatically posted and archived there – extending your reach to your readers.
Q. I’m a travel writer – I don’t want a “blog” look. What’s Wordpress got for me?
A. If you’re a travel writer, then you have an instant way to archive your clippings, photos and related media. You can password protect it so it’s a little more secure. You can add a few plugins to create a gallery of photos that you can upload (without any added software) and display in a Flash format, so they aren’t easily downloaded by poachers. Since WordPress is so customizable your site doesn’t need to look like a blog at all.
Q. I’m a travel agent and I already use an “out of the box” solution like Online Agency or Passport Online. What’s different?
A. If you use a canned solution like OLA or Nexcite then you’re missing the search engine boat. Google defines duplicate content as,
” substantive blocks of content within or across domains that either completely match other content or are appreciably similar.”
so, if these services are serving up sites with the same travel specials to every one of their customers, then that definition applies. With WordPress, you can include supplier information, travel offers, deals and specials – the ones you get in email every day – without duplicating content. WordPress even includes plugins that allow you to email your offers into your site!
